Media Units
Students, lecturers or members of staff at KU Leuven can edit their own video and audio material at Media and Learning Unit to create a video programme.
This service is free of charge, unless you want to edit private material. To find out how much this costs, consult our tariffs.
Media and Learning Unit has four editing units with standard equipment. All you need to do is reserve an editing unit in time by contacting Media and Learning Unit.
The editing work is done by you, but you can rely on the support of an Media and Learning Unit staff member during the process. At the start you will receive an hour-long explanation of how the equipment in the editing unit works, how to start editing and general points to take into consideration.
In principle, the editing units are accessible 24/24 and 7/7, although support is only provided from 9 am to 5 pm.
The amount of time you will need to edit a programme depends on the number of transitions and effects included. If you are really starting with unprocessed recordings and want to work until you have a nicely finished product, you can expect every 5 minutes of finished programme to take one day's work.
When your production work is over, we will also be happy to help you incorporate it into a website, a PowerPoint presentation or a DVD.

Would you prefer us to do the editing work for you? No problem: contact our Production Team.
Important! If you want to enhance the programme with music from commercial or Library recordings, it will be assumed that you have taken care of copyright issues. We advise you to use Library Music so that you can settle these issues easily via SABAM (only Dutch and French).
The media units can also be used for the recording and editing of screencasts with Camtasia. The units include a well-equipped computer with webcam and high-quality michrophone. Read more about screencasts.
